It was pretty hilarious! He's 82, lives in Europe, and is hard of hearing. We video Sk.ype with him each weekend to keep in touch.
Today we gave him a call as usual to get him to turn on his computer and join us on a video call. Chatted about his health, the weather... and then DH asked him if he had his M.SN Messen.ger turned on. And then sent him the NT ultrasound closeup pic of the baby.
First he leaned in close to the computer screen, nearly disappearing from camera view. Then asked if it was a picture of cloud formations. Or a CT scan? (He's recently had CTs of his chest done) We said no, it was an ultrasound. Of his hopefully 6th grandchild.
But of course he didn't hear me say that. Leaned in closer again, and said "it looks like a person". DH said "Yep, but a very small person". And then we got the slow-growing grin. Baffled surprise. "Oh, how wonderful!" "How are you feeling?"
He certainly understood that we'd waited to tell him, since he also brought up the whole "God willing, you'll be a family of 3" kind of thing. I know he and my MIL had 1 or 2 pregnancy losses to deal with as well in their time, so he understands how fragile things are. It's just too bad MIL isn't alive to see this day come.
It was very sweet to see his reaction though. I'm sure he'll love having a new baby in the family again - it's been 13 years since his youngest grandchild was a baby.

That is so sweet! I don't know what I'd do without Skype to talk to my daughter from the hospital, and for her to see far away relatives.

So wonderful! Thank goodness for skype, and good goin for Grandpa to be so technology savvy - my dad still hasn't quite figured it out yet! Glad to hear every thing's moving along well!
