The milk drinking is going a little better now. She wasn't interested the new sippy cups I got her, nor was she too keen on the straw sippies we also have. She'd drink a little from those, and then try to tip them up like she was drinking from a regular bottle or sippy, so that the end of the straw would be above the milk. After that, I decided to try giving her the milk in a regular little cup. After a day or so of trying that in the morning, she started to drink a little bit of milk from the cup. Between that and the milk she gets with her cereal in the mornings, plus her oh-so-beloved nighttime bottle, she's doing well for milk intake. DH is pretty sad that he doesn't have his morning bottle and cuddle session any more.
Apparently our nanny asked DH today whether we were thinking of starting potty training soon. She's noticed that K has fairly regular times for going to the bathroom (I assume mostly pooping). I think we're going to go out and get a potty so that she can try using it. The sooner we can get rid of diapers, the better. For now, the bulky cloth diapers (and her portly little waistline) mean that she's outgrowing quite a few 2T bottoms long before she's grown into their length.
K's loving this game I picked up from the donations area at our old apartment building before we had her: Cari.boo. It's supposed to be for ages 3+, but since it involves using a "key" to open little doors to look for balls hidden behind them, she's all over it. It can easily keep her entertained for 20+ minutes - we just have to be careful she doesn't stick one of the little balls in her mouth.
She seems to be understanding more these days. We can ask her to put a book back on the shelf, and she'll do it. Tonight one of the little balls bounced down the hall and around the corner into the kitchen, lost from view. I asked her to go get it, and she went off, found it, and brought it back to me.
She had Mama and Papa pretty straight for the last few weeks, but has started to mix them up again a little now - I almost get the impression she's teasing us by calling us by the wrong names. She can now roar when she sees a picture of a lion (it's a cute little growl from deep in her throat), and will say "ooo" when you ask her what sound a cow makes. Meowing will make her laugh, as will snorting oink, but she won't repeat either of those yet. She'll also still say "Row row" when she wants you to sing "Row, row, row your boat".
16 months is a very fun age!

I have to agree with you. Though Noah is a little younger than K, the transition period between baby and toddler is so fun. I love watching when they learn a new word and then get so excited about it. And every day it seems like receptive language grows and grows. They're growing up so fast, it's bittersweet!
