She's growing up faster than I want her to...
Last weekend our 3.5 yo neighbour K knocked on our door (with her Dad) to see if K wanted to play. We ended up going to the park because the weather was beautiful. While there, we saw her favourite little boy friend O with his Dad. She and K wanted to go in the sand box, so DH and I said all three of them could play together there. K said, "No, with K". We encouraged O to go over with them to play, but a couple min later the poor boy was hanging on his Dad's leg asking to go home and looking sad. We told K that wasn't nice and that O was sad she hadn't wanted to play with him.
The next morning, DH told her that when she saw O later that day, she should give him a hug and say sorry for not playing with him. She said "Why?", and he said "Because he was sad you didn't want to play". And what was K's response to that (at just over 2.5 years old): "Das Leben ist hart." (= Life is hard) Apparently our nanny uses that phrase with her from time to time, but I was not expecting it to come out of her mouth!
And in other news, we had our first K-free night since she was born last night. Went out to a fancy restaurant for our 15th first date anniversary, and when we asked my Dad to watch her, he suggested a sleep-over. I spent the evening missing her, sad that he wouldn't put her on the phone when I called at bedtime (because he thought she'd ask to go home if she heard my voice), and nearly wanted to stop when driving past his condo on our way home to wake her up to bring her home. She ate a HUGE dinner, went to bed just great, had to be woken up the next morning, and then didn't want to leave to come back to our house. Sigh. She's growing up.

Hahaha...smart girl (re: the "Life is hard" mantra). A good lesson to learn early on! Glad you were able to somewhat enjoy your baby-free time!
