We had friends and their almost 14-month-old visit us this past weekend. It was so great to see the kids interact and play together. K gave T a lot of kisses, and by the end of the visit, he was trying to push her away to avoid them. The first ones were with some prompting, but after that, she kept trying to kiss him on her own. The big open-mouthed kisses are so cute.
I got a little worried about their little T by the end of the visit. He's been walking for a bit now, but falls down _all_ the time. K was later to walk on her own, but was cruising and walking between us earlier on. She definitely had better balance than T does now, and fell nowhere near as much. He's such a light little guy (OK, K's probably just a bruiser) too, and has had major reflux problems since the start. I couldn't tell too well because he always had on big baggy droopy shorts, but he really seemed to pronate while walking, and just seemed to move a little funny for a kid who's been up and walking for a month or so. He'd topple over all the time, and I wondered if his tone was a little low when I'd pick him up. It was hard to tell if that was the case though, or if it was just that I'm used to picking up a very solidly built K. I hope I'm completely wrong that their might be some kind of issue there.
I didn't get to enjoy their visit too much because I got a mild case of the gastro and a fever on Sat, just when we were out planning to wander around the city together and get some good Dim Sum for lunch. Perfect time to get sick. K luckily didn't get the diarrhea part, so after a day where she threw up 3 times but acted otherwise normal, we cautiously gave her her bedtime bottle, half at a time. She woke up and was back to normal the next day.
Last night, she was a real whiny mama's girl. She usually only acts like that when she's sick or hurting, so I gave her a good dose of tylenol and she seemed to get better over the next hour. Tonight when I was getting her ready for bed, I saw that her left lower lateral incisor has finally popped through, and that those two molars are really starting to appear, and a third is about to poke through the surface of her gums. It's no wonder the poor girl isn't feeling great.
She's running really well now, and is a bit of a daredevil at times on the playground or climbing hills at the park. Our walk home of one long block this evening took 15min or so because she had to run up everyone's driveway and front path, and even climbed onto someone's porch. She also had to pick up tons of tiny things off the ground and squeeze the heads of lots of dead flowers in people's gardens. It's funny what will catch her eye.
Her vocabulary is expanding more now too. Tonight she seemed to say "mue" (Muell = garbage), and she's been saying "Bue" (Buch = book) for a while now. "nee" (Knie = knees). "nas" (Nase = nose). I'll have to start making notes of the words she's picking up, because I know I'm forgetting some now. It's great to see her developing so well!
She's now 12.2kg and 86cm tall. We'll see what they get next week at her 18 month visit.
